Willow Lantern Making Kit – 40 cm Willow – Packs of 5, 10 or 30

Bring your group together to make glowing willow lanterns. These boxed kits contain precut willow, white wet-strength tissue paper, LED tealights and printed instructions—ideal for schools, youth groups, PTA activities and family craft sessions.

Build a triangular pyramid frame, cover it with tissue paper and light it with the included LED tealight. The straight willow sticks can be used dry, so there’s no soaking needed.

Choose your pack

• 5 lanterns – for smaller groups.
• 10 lanterns – for group craft sessions.
• 30 lanterns plus a free teacher’s kit – materials for 31 lanterns, so you can make an example or demonstrate alongside your group.

Included for each lantern

• 6 precut willow sticks, each 40 cm long.
• 5 sheets of white wet-strength tissue paper, each 55 × 35 cm, including a spare sheet.
• 4 pieces of florist wire for supporting the LED tealight.
• 1 LED battery tealight.
• 1 set of printed illustrated instructions.

Materials are supplied together in a box for your group.

What you’ll need

PVA glue, masking tape, water, a mixing pot, brushes or sponges, scissors and a protected work surface. An adult may also need wire cutters.

For covering the frame, mix 3 parts water with 1 part PVA glue. Allow the tissue covering to dry fully before using your lantern; leaving it overnight is ideal.

Size and use

The 40 cm measurement refers to the willow sticks, rather than the finished lantern height. Each lantern has a triangular pyramid shape with an open base. A carrying handle is not included.

Wet-strength tissue holds together when coated with diluted glue and gives a translucent finish when dry. The finished lantern is not waterproof.

Use LED lights only—never candles or naked flames. Adult supervision is needed when children are working with willow, wire and tools.
